Is there anything we can do to prevent ovarian cancer?

Prevention: Surgical

• Prophylactic oophorectomy (Removal of ovaries without disease)
  • Heredity ovarian cancer syndromes
  • Does not protect against recurrence of rare peritoneal tumor with same histology.
• Tubal ligation
• Hysterectomy

Prevention: Nonsurgical

• Oral contraceptive use (60% Risk Reduction with 5yrs use)
• Aspirin
• Avoid agents associated with increased risks: (e.g. Asbestos,Talc)
